OPENING: 12 May 2016

From 12 May to 30 June 2016

Biasutti & Biasutti gallery has the pleasure to present an exhibition by the Italian artist Salvatore Mangione, known as Salvo (Leonforte (Enna) 1947- Torino 2015).
A journey back in the artist’s research is built throughout the more of the 20 selected works from 1971 to 2015: from an unknown photographical interpretation of Tricolore (1971) up to the oil paintings on canvas of his Primavere. The 1972 work L’uomo che spaccò la statua del Dio, from the marble tombstones series, taken from an Aesop’s parable. The tombstones engraved with words, phrases or inscriptions from the most various sources, represent an example of the memorial monument that Salvo creates for himself, as the artist and main character of the work.
The work Sicilia (1977) and Ritratto di Paolo Mussat Sartor (1978) open the exhibition of his return to the painting, that Salvo will definitely approach in 1973, the turning point, through the re-use of the traditional techniques and the review of a series of landscapes. Later in the ‘80s, his paintings will testify his travels to Greece, Jugoslavia and Turkey. The “mishram”, the traditional Muslim graves seen in Sarajevo, are protagonists of Sarajevo (1984).
The works Aranci (1982), Senza titolo (1986), Senza titolo (1987), displayed at the major retrospective at the Rotonda in Besana street in Milan in December 1987, represent respectively an unexpected still life, the triumph of color and a charming urban landscape, resubmit the same subject in Case con lampioni (1987). In 1989 he will dedicate a series of works to Interni con funzioni straordinarie (1990), inspired by the paintings by Pieter Saenredam, active in the Netherlands in the mid 17th century, where naves of Gothic cathedrals and columns joins are immerged in a magical atmosphere created by an elegant study of the perspective and light. Cities, books and flowers live in the most recent canvas, that complete the exhibition, significant are La Valle (2000), San Nicola Arcella and Primavera (2015).
