1988: VENT’ANNI PRIMA VENT’ANNI DOPO | |||||||||||
Curated by Marco Bazzini from November 2008 to February 2009 To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Tuscan exhibition venue, Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art in Prato has proposed an exhibition capable of suggesting an epochal reflection, which connects the birth of the center - which took place in 1988 - to the previous twenty years and the next one. The exhibition, which welcomes the works of thirteen artists and draws the boundaries of forty years of history, finds in '68 the ideal starting point, to trace some thematic strands born in that season. "Not an exhibition that wants to make judgments on '68" as Bazzini points out, nor an exhibition that claims to "philologically reconstruct the events of Italian art of the last four decades", but a dialogue between artists of different generations, in search of instances and poetic choices, now collective, now individual. Like the desire for participation that for Piero Gilardi assumes the face of nature, with works - the "Nature carpet" or the "Birch dress" of the late 1960s that push a man to fully immerse himself in a dimension, for which he was destined, but which society has reduced to the extreme.
