OPENING: Thursday 6 March 2025 6 p.m. from 6 March to 19 April 2025 Biasutti & Biasutti gallery presents an exhibition dedicated to Aldo Mondino (Turin 1938 – 2005) twenty years after his death. An anthology of works created between 1961 and 1989, such as Souvenir d'Ittiodrom (1969) and Modern Collage (1971), with calembours titles, the ironic Hotel de Lille (1982), and d'apres Millet and Millet non più Millet (1984), referring to the figure of Jean-François Millet, the French Realist painter. The retrospective is enriched by bronze sculptures as Viola d'amore, an open viola case placed on a bench that seems almost humanized, Araba Phoenix and Singe, the latter created with the system of a Singer sewing machine. Mondino, canceling the final consonant of the well-known mechanical symbol, transforms the term into Singe, which in French means "monkey". The experimentation with materials continues with La lira (1989), another wooden sculpture, created during his stay in Africa. Each painting or sculpture, fragment or word is the summary of the experience, curiosity and continuous research cultivated between Rome, Paris and Malindi. A tribute to one of the most talented figures that Italian art had in the second half of the 20th century. Aldo Mondino is pure irony, never banal, intelligent and elegant.
