Jonathan Guaitamacchi. “Gran Torino”

OPENING: Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 6 pm
DATES: 14 May - 27 June 2026

Biasutti & Biasutti Gallery is pleased to present “Gran Torino”, a solo exhibition by Jonathan Guaitamacchi (London, 1961), curated by Francesco Poli.

Following an international trajectory that has led him to live and work between London, Milan, Cape Town, and Johannesburg, Guaitamacchi settled in Turin approximately a decade ago, initiating a dialogue with the city that finds in this exhibition a moment of full maturation—both a form of recognition and a renewed exploration of the urban context that has embraced him.

The exhibition brings together approximately thirty previously unseen works, the outcome of the artist’s most recent research and conceived specifically for the gallery’s spaces. Here, Guaitamacchi constructs a visual narrative of Turin through a series of large-scale compositions devoted to its skyline and to emblematic architectural landmarks such as the Mole Antonelliana and the Palazzo del Lavoro.

Rendered in a stark black-and-white palette, these urban and industrial landscapes unfold as elevated, almost aerial visions—tilted horizons, mnemonic fragments, and perceptual shifts that oscillate between figuration and abstraction. They incorporate glimpses of other areas of the city, including Via Po, the Lingotto, and Barriera, weaving together a stratified and dynamic urban imagery. In Guaitamacchi’s work, the city emerges as a living, perceptible organism, suspended between motion and stasis, and inhabited by unseen presences. His compositions evoke the incessant flow of anonymous lives that, while indistinguishable as individuals, coalesce into a dense, rhythmic, and collective entity.

The exhibition catalogue will be presented on Thursday, June 4 at 6:00 pm.
