OPENING: March 24, 2022 at 6 p.m. March 24 - May 31, 2022 Biasutti & Biasutti is pleased to present a solo exhibition dedicated to Andrea Nisbet (b. in Torre Pellice, Torino, Italy, 1960). About thirty works define the body of the show titled “D’Intorno”. Nisbet started his research in the eighties, after he graduated from Turin’s Art High School and then studied restoration at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome with Professor Pagliani. His early, predominantly pictorial, works concentrate on the depiction of places linked to the history and the life of humankind (charnel houses, abandoned huts and obsolete factories): desolate landscapes bare of human beings, the very existence of these images inexorably reveals humankind’s presence and determination. They provoke a reflection on destiny and on the presumed possibility or liberty of intervention in the course of events. This is perceptible in the paintings Nisbet produced in the mid 1900s: scenes of roadways, in a suspended atmosphere, over which the possibility of a tragic event hovers. Andrea Nisbet’s exploration comes to 2000s, where it appears evident his relationship with nature, through his recent works as drawings and environmental installations. A path marked by roads that go beyond traditional logic. The exhibition features "large" drawings in which the artist faithfully and obsessively reproduces tree trunks, subjected to the human intervention. Painted and dated ceramic shapely pots, made with the engobbio technique, placed on top of fir and cedar trunks bring the cycle of life back to life. A contemporary vision: the vase itself collects the water that flows to the plant (the trunk). The installation itself envelops the observer, making him feel a close contact with nature.
