Biasutti & Biasutti Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition dedicated to Gianfranco Baruchello (Livorno 1924). This show includes a group of works spanning through the half of the 1960s to the half of the 1990s. As Luca Beatrice writes in the text's catalogue: "Baruchello is a complex, well-structured, intellectual and multiform artist. His work wears the critic's activity out, pinned down by an inexhaustible variety of references, allusions, and, especially by a frenetic activity starting in the Sixties until nowadays. He is a militant, not only for the short but intense change through the political climate of the 1968, but also for the necessity of being a key player in a cultural debate, which, during that decade, saw art constantly in connection to "other" languages: the word, the writing, the experimental cinema, the television, the mass media".
Baruchello is an absolute leading figure of the Italian art, as confirmed by his participation at Biennale di Venezia in 2013 and at Documenta Kassel (2012).
"Boxes-sculptures, oil on aluminium, works on paper, organize the poetic corpus of an artist always restless, intentionally paradoxical in his statements as"what you do with painting, could have be done with the television". Nevertheless in the late Seventies' Baruchello's works, it persists a presence of word, which invites to look at "with a tail in one's eye", using not a front view but an oblique and dynamic vision of the work. For a work can be realized with the words and not with the images, working with writing as if it were not (only) writing".
