ENRICO VANZINA. VARIAZIONI POP | |||||||||||
OPENING: 11 September 2021 – 6 p.m DATES: 11 September - 9 October 2021 Biasutti & Biasutti is proud to present to its collectors a selection of new photographic works created by the screenwriter and writer Enrico Vanzina. Thirty-two prints characterized by “a specific artistic connotation, all in black and white with particular experimental and metalinguistic values”, as Francesco Poli writes in the catalogue introduction. A particular emphasis on themes related to the sixties and seventies’ American pop culture, whose vital energy has never decreased. There are many references and quotations to figurative art (from Hopper to Warhol), to cinema and music (from Marilyn Monroe to the Blues Brothers) and to literature (Hemingway, Truman Capote, Nabokov and Woody Allen). “A refined combination game of various different iconic materials. These are works that are linked to the tradition of avant-garde photo-collages (Dadaist and pop) but replacing scissors and glue with digital interventions ". A series of portraits of actors whose figures are digitally retouched are part of the exhibition. The value of this exhibition is explained in the text by Vanzina: “Dealing with Pop themes in 2021 does not seem out of time to me. Indeed, returning to the glorious paths of that exciting moment of artistic creation of the last century offers cold food for thought that clearly delimit some stylistic choices. Pop never died. It is still very much alive in the world around us. Like a full-bodied wine, decanted in an oak barrel, it acquires new flavors and spreads new fragrances. In my case we are dealing with "variations", therefore a series of images transformed by an invisible signifier: the return to the figurative that carries the dross of the conceptual ".
